The members of all of the boards also met together in one session of the "Council of Boards" on the evening of January 25. The Council of Boards has the the power to make interim decisions on issues which cannot wait until the biennial convention of delegates from the congregations. In this case, the Council of Boards processed only one item of business. It approved the appointment of Don Petker of Coaldale, Alta. to fill a vacant position on the Canadian Conference Board of Communications. The position became vacant last summer when Board of Communications member Reuben Pauls was appointed executive minister of the Canadian Conference.
In a visioning session, Winnipeg pastor and cartoonist Lorlie Barkman used a series of cartoons to help the Council of Boards think through the implications of the Conference statement of mission and core values. JC
