My humanness can feel the pain
That wrenches at my heart;
In darkest hours the sense of loss
Is tearing me apart.
And as I wept, the scars of pain
Were forming through my grief,
And in His mercy and His love
God came through my belief,
And in the long and lonely night
I heard my Father speak--
A tiny pair of angel wings
Touched gently on my cheek--
"Behold My child--she's here with Me.
She's safe within My arms,
Protected now beyond the reach
Of any earthly harms,
As one day you will be as well.
And so she waits for you,
For in the twinkling of an eye
Your life's work will be through,
And, reunited in My home,
At last I will explain
The reason why it had to be,
The purpose for your pain.
"Two souls that live within the one,
Two hearts are yet entwined,
Two spirits so embraced, and yet
It cannot be defined.
The tiny child I leave with you--
You've aptly called her Grace.
The other one I keep for you
Within this resting place.
Accept My gift and love her well,
Take comfort, know My peace,
For as you hold her to your heart,
You also hold Elise."
