1997 Convention Announced

"Straight Paths for a Twisting World" will be the theme for the 1997 convention of the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. The convention will be held at the Waterloo MB Church, Waterloo, Ont. July 10-12, 1997. Additional information about the convention will be forthcoming.

In preparation for the convention, the General Conference Executive Committee will convene a strategic evaluation meeting, September 24-26, 1996. According to Conference moderator Ed Boschman, the meeting is planned to help the General Conference face the challenges of ministry in the 21st century.

At its April meeting, the Executive Committee also affirmed its continued support of Ed Boschman as conference moderator. Boschman will continue in that position until the 1997 convention as permitted by Conference by-laws. Boschman recently resigned as pastor of Willow Park Church, Kelowna, B.C., to accept a position as executive director of Mission USA. The offices of moderator and vice-moderator of the General Conference of MB Churches are held alternately by Canadian and US representatives.
