Spiritual hunger in evidence at Bible conference

HEPBURN, SASK.

It was a first for Bethany Bible Institute--an off-season Bible conference. "Exploring the Bible Together" attracted an eager group of learners from Alberta and Saskatchewan to the Bethany campus June 7-9.

The conference coincided with the arrival of RVICS (Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service) on campus. These retired couples travel about in Canada and the United States in their RVs assisting non-profit organizations with various work projects. The RVICS couples, from points as near as Dalmeny and as distant as Texas, enlarged the conference attendance to about 30.

The conference focussed on the book of Philippians under the guidance of noted Bible teacher David Ewert. Ewert, now living in Abbotsford, B.C., chose an indepth analysis method of study. He presented four expositional lectures that covered less than half the book.

Conference participants enjoyed his clearly structured, thorough presentations. Written evaluations at the end of the conference had comments such as "good biblical exposition by an excellent teacher and scholar"; "I felt like Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus! I came spiritually hungry and I was adequately fed and challenged."

In addition to his four lectures on Philippians, Ewert also presented an informative lecture on "Why Christians fight over the Bible". The conference ended Sunday morning with a two-hour worship time, concluding with Ewert's final lecture.

After learning together, singing together, praying together and relaxing together, one conference participant observed that "it was a true holiday--physical, spiritual, mental and emotional". Similar conferences are being planned for the future.
