Wingender has a science degree from I'Universite Laval and an M.Div. in pastoral studies from Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. He served as pastor of the Mennonite Brethren church in Ste-Rose, Quebec from 1988 to 1990. Since then, he has taught science in secondary schools in Ste-Therese and St-Eustache. During these years in secular employment, he continued his preaching ministry as time allowed, and also taught an ethics course at IBL. He is married to Paulette Taylor. Eric and Paulette have three sons, Jean-Francois, 8, Sydney, 6, and Spencer, 3. They presently attend the Mennonite Brethren church in St-Laurent.
Jean-Raymond Theoret, president of IBL, looks forward to Wingender's participation on the IBL team. Wingender is well-known for his gifts as a communicator and for his ability to contextualize the Christian faith for today's world.
Wingender's position will be half-time for the 1996-97 school year. The fact that the full-time position left by the outgoing professor cannot be completely filled is a direct result of the difficulties IBL has encountered in its fundraising efforts over the last few years. The school hopes to remedy this situation as soon as finances will permit.
