Jacob N. Toews

Jacob N. Toews passed away Jan. 27. He was born Oct. 9, 1906 to Abram and Katherina Toews in Russia. The family moved to Langham, Sask. in 1907 and later settled near Hodgeville, Sask., then Herbert, Sask. in 1912. When he was 12, his father died. His mother married Johann Thiessen. He was baptized at 19 at Greenfarm MB Church, where he led the choir and male chorus and sang in a male quartet. After spending 2 years at Herbert Bible School, he married Tina Voth Jan. 1, 1929. In 1944, they moved to Rosedale, B.C., where they were charter members of East Chilliwack MB Church. While operating the family chicken farm, he also worked at various times as a carpenter and school bus driver, at a lime quarry and at York Farms until his retirement. In 1961, they moved to a house in Chilliwack, B.C. Predeceased by Tina in 1994 and 4 sisters, he is mourned by children Alvin of Abbotsford, B.C., Luella Schartner of Salmon Arm, B.C., Irene Riediger of Chilliwack, Elnora Froese of Agassiz, B.C., Marion Schmidt of Calgary, Erla Thiessen of Sardis, B.C. and Harvey of Chilliwack; and 1 brother. The funeral was Jan. 31 at Chilliwack Central MB Church, with Reg Toews, Keith Wiggin and William Thiessen ministering.

Frank E. Peters

Frank E. Peters passed away Mar. 30. He was born Sept. 22, 1903 to Jacob and Anna Peters in Inman, Kan. He accepted the Lord as a child and was baptized at 13, joining Zoar KMB Church. The family moved to Alberta in 1918 and Burwalde, Man. in 1923. He attended MEI in Altona in 1924 and was one of the first graduates of Winkler Bible School. He married Helen Labun June 29, 1930. He took over the family farm after his father died in 1937. He taught Sunday school in Burwalde for 42 years, serving as superintendent for 32 years. He later served as treasurer on the Board of Winkler Bible School. He helped establish Winkler Bible Camp and served as a deacon in Winkler MB Church for 30 years. In 1974, they retired to Winkler. They enjoyed travelling together; he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He moved to Bethel Hospital in April, 1995, then Salem Personal Care Home in January, 1996. He is remembered as consistently seeking God's will and desiring to help build His kingdom. Predeceased by 1 granddaughter, 1 sister and 1 brother, both in infancy, he is mourned by Helen; sons John of Parksville, B.C., William of Westbank, B.C., Dave of Antigua, West Indies, Leonard, Irvin and Harold, all of Winkler; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Apr. 3 at Winkler MB Church, with George Baerg and Herman Voth ministering.

Anna Neudorf

Anna Neudorf passed away Apr. 10. She was born Dec. 18, 1908 to Peter and Maria Hamm in Hague, Sask. She married widower Abraham Neudorf May 7, 1933. His 6 sons were joined by 3 sons they had together. They farmed in Great Deer, Sask. until 1935, moving to Meadow Lake, Sask., then Loon River, Sask. in 1936. They farmed until 1970, then retired to Meadow Lake. Abraham died in 1983. She moved to Northland Pioneer Lodge in 1993. She enjoyed gardening, reading and crocheting. She was active in the church. She is remembered for her love of Scripture, commitment to prayer and strong faith and trust in the Lord. She is mourned by children Carl, Albert, Reuben, Reynold, David; 42 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. The funeral was Apr. 15 at Northwest Community Church, Meadow Lake, with Bob Cappelle ministering.

Henry John Kornelson

Henry John Kornelson passed away Apr. 29. He was born Dec. 19, 1913 to John and Justina Kornelson in Blumstein, Ukraine. After his father died, his mother married Peter Fast. They immigrated to Canada in June, 1924, living in Manitoba. He moved to Ontario with his sister to find work and the family followed later. He married Helen Wiens of Winkler, Man. Oct. 16, 1938 and was baptized Aug. 23, 1942, joining Leamington (Ont.) MB Church. He worked as a greenhouse manager and studied at night to obtain a stationary engineering diploma. He worked at St. Clair College before retirement. He is remembered as a dedicated husband and father and a loving grandparent. He is mourned by Helen; daughters Shirley Driedger, Carolyne Greene and Myrna Inrig; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 1 brother and 2 sisters. The funeral was May 1 at Leamington MB Church, with Henry Regier ministering.

Albert Toews

Albert Toews passed away May 11. He was born Jan. 3, 1913 in Steinbach, Man. He accepted Christ at 27. His faith was very real to him, and he used many opportunities to witness. In 1949, he moved to the West Kooteneys in B.C. to continue a Sunday school at Rock Creek, B.C. He married Kathleen Willms Aug. 10, 1950. In 1952, they moved to Abbotsford, B.C., where they operated a small mixed farm. He assisted ministries such as Patricia Mission, Straiton Gospel Chapel and Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver. He is remembered as a devoted family man who strove to honour God in word and deed. He is mourned by Kathleen; sons James, Phillip, Ed, Fred; 8 grandchildren; and 5 siblings. The funeral was at South Abbotsford MB Church, with James Toews, David Epp and David Manuel ministering.

Jacob H. Heide

Jacob H. Heide passed away May 14. He was born July 21, 1917 to Jacob and Nettie Heide in Horndean, Man. He accepted the Lord as a young boy and was baptized at 18. Throughout his life, he enjoyed serving in various capacities in church and community. He married Anna Dyck Oct. 15, 1939 in Grossweide, Man. They worked at several different farms, and at garages. In 1956, the family moved to Manitou, Man., where Jake worked at Voth's garage. He particularly enjoyed finding the problem in an ailing engine when others had given up on it. They became caretakers at the Manitou school. He later also drove a school bus for 12 years. They retired in December, 1981. They moved to Tabor Apartments in Morden, Man. living there until 1989 when they moved to Heritage Apartments in Winkler, Man. Predeceased by 3 sisters and 1 brother, he is mourned by Annie; children Reynold of Grande Centre, Alta., Merle of Brandon, Man., Joyce Krahn of Winkler, Sharon Dyck of Winkler, and Walter of Morden; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters and 2 brothers. The funeral was May 19 at Winkler MB Church, with George Baerg ministering.

Jacob F. Peters

Jacob F. Peters passed away May 16. He was born Jan. 12, 1915. He worked for 50 years with the Gladstones of Winkler, Man., and was well-known in the community as a businessman and accountant. He was an active church member and volunteer. Predeceased by his twin sister and 1 brother, he is mourned by Lydia; daughters Brenda Wesley of Surrey, B.C. and Delores Morawski of Winnipeg; son Lawrence of Winkler; and 6 grandchildren. The funeral was May 20 at Winkler MB Church, with George Baerg ministering.
