NEW SECRETARY FOR FINANCE JOINS MBM/S

Winnipeg, Man.

Faced with an urgent need to find a new secretary for finance in its Winnipeg office, the Mennonite Brethren Missions/Services Board Executive Committee unanimously agreed to appoint John Olfert of Winnipeg, to the post, effective July 1.

"God's timing is truly evident in this process," said, John Bergman, director of support Services for MBM/S. Olfert, who recently finished the required training for the Certified General Accountant (CGA), has also just completed a two-year commitment to Youth For Christ (YFC) in Winnipeg, where he served as controller. He became available at the precise time MBM/S began its search.

The 1991 graduate of the University of Winnipeg worked for three years as a Mutual Fund Accountant at Investors Group prior to moving to YFC, where he supervised donation receipting, processing payables and payroll. He brings strong skills in systems analysis, systems design and computer programming/networking to his new role.

At 27, Olfert becomes the youngest administrator on the MBM/S team. He and his wife, Brenda, have two children, Bryn, 20 months, and Joel, 4 months. They belong to McIvor Avenue MB Church in Winnipeg, where both are involved in ministry and leadership.

The previous secretary for finance, Ed Falk, submitted his resignation in May, effective June 19, to take a position with a business firm in Winnipeg.
