Dove appears at Lithuanian baptism

Klaipeda, Lithuania

Klaipeda, 6:00 a.m., Sunday morning, on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

The sun-worshipers haven't yet arrived, but a group of 50 young Son-worshipers watch the first rays of sunshine peek over the horizon. To the west a pinkish cloud hovers over the sea.

A young man steps into the water with two Christian leaders and in clear Lithuanian confesses Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. As he is immersed in the water, a rainbow appears below the cloud and a dove swoops down, skimming the water between the crowd on the shore and the three men in the water. A heavenly signal of God's pleasure?

Eleven more young men and women go into the chilly sea to proclaim their trust in Christ. A guitar begins to play, and the group joins in a song of praise, just as the rainbow disappears.

The joyful, festive celebration comes to an end, but the group soon gathers again for breakfast at a local school. Quite a few still wonder: where did that dove come from?
