The Radtkes were acknowledged by present and past moderators and associate pastors, and by Ralph Gliege, conference minister of the Saskatchewan MB Conference. They paid tribute to Radtke's vision and compassion, for which Radtke gave all the credit and praise to God.
The Radtkes arrived at Forest Grove in 1984 while the church was in the middle of a building project. Since then, the building has been completed, and a multi-purpose facility has been added.
Pastor Bob enthusiastically encouraged his congregants and celebrated growth as the church body multiplied several times under his ministry. During his pastorate, the church saw a renewed emphasis on mission involvement, the establishment of a preschool, MOM's program, evangelistic banquets, and the organization of home groups. Radtke was known for his strong Bible-based preaching.
The Radtkes worked well as a team. Ione's insight and understanding of Bible truths, her gifts of encouragement and teaching, and her contagious enthusiasm punctuated with laughter and warm hugs touched many.
While pastoring at Forest Grove Community Church, pastor Radtke accepted ministry opportunities to speak at family, Bible, mission and pastor's conferences. In 1995, Radtke was the local chair with the Franklin Graham Crusade in Saskatoon. In addition to serving as a strong support to her husband, Ione has had years of experience working with troubled teen girls.
After 12 years of pastoring at Forest Grove, the Radtkes are taking a step towards retirement by moving back to Fresno, Calif., where their three married sons and six grandchildren live. Robert Radtke will be working with the Billy Graham Crusade Association leading pre-crusade pastors' rallies, as well as teaching Christian Life and Witness classes. In addition, he is already booked to speak at a conference, and will continue to minister in that way.
