Emmanuel Horch
Emmanuel Horch passed away Mar. 10. He was born Dec. 21, 1912 to Edward and Katherine Horch in Winnipeg. At 13, he took an interest in music and learned to play the violin, winning the Junior Music Club Award at 18. He worked at grocery stores, then Paul Revere Life Insurance. He especially loved to teach violin lessons, continuing until he was 82. He taught over 1500 students. He also enjoyed travelling and spending time with his many friends. Predeceased by his wife Agatha in 1988 and 3 brothers, he is mourned by sons Victor of Boise, Idaho, Ron of Vancouver, Wash. and Ben of Fargo, N.D.; daughter Elfrieda Warkentin of Winnipeg; 7 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and 1 sister. The funeral was Mar. 16 at Elmwood MB Church, with Abe Klassen ministering.
Henry Unrau
Henry Unrau of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away May 15. He was born May 11, 1927 to Peter and Lena Unrau in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico. He met Jennie Schroeder in his late teens. She refused to date him because he was not a Christian. This eventually led to his conversion. They then married Sept. 21, 1947. He pastored several churches and held many other ministry positions, most recently directing Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center in Sumas, Wash. He preached the gospel in a clear and understandable way that led many to salvation, including numerous young people in the revival at Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, B.C. in 1956. He is remembered as having a real heart for people. Jennie died Oct. 16, 1995. His strong faith and trust in God were evident at this time. Predeceased by Jennie, 1 brother and 1 granddaughter, he is mourned by children Al of Abbotsford, Bonny Voth of Edson, Alta., June Isaak of Yarrow, B.C., Reg of Abbotsford, Rhonda Willms of Yarrow and Dan of Aldergrove, B.C.; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. The funeral was May 20 at Central Heights MB Church, with Pete Unrau ministering.
Suzanne Alayne Harder
Suzanne Alayne Harder of Waldheim, Sask. died in a car accident July 3. She was born Aug. 26, 1979 to Harry and Darlene Harder in Waldheim. She accepted Jesus at age 5. She had many friends. She enjoyed music, achieving her grade 8 in piano and grade 1 in Theory. She especially enjoyed singing and started singing solos as a young girl. She sang the grand finale in the church choir Easter musical, "Let All Heaven Rejoice". She said when she wanted to sing with feeling, she imagined Jesus with her on the stage or herself going up to heaven. Suzanne had directed the junior choir since Christmas. She was deeply moved by the death of classmate Amanda Derksen 6 months earlier and decided to be a more committed Christian and a positive influence in the youth group and in the school. She was looking forward to being a counsellor at Redberry Bible Camp. She was on her way to a work education meeting when her car rolled. She is mourned by her parents; sister Lorelle Willems; brother Jeremy; and grandparents Henry and Erna Klassen. The funeral was July 6 in Salem Church in Waldheim, with Roger Ginter and Bob Vogt ministering.
Mary Loewen
Mary Loewen passed away July 4. She was born Sept. 18, 1911 to Dietrich and Sarah Esau in Orienta, Oklahoma. By the time she was 16, she had travelled to Alberta twice, once by covered wagon and once by Model T. She was a good student but left school after grade 8 to work at home and at housekeeping jobs. She married Ernest Loewen Feb. 15, 1934. She was a hard-working and resourceful farm wife, caring for their 11 children. In 1961, they moved into Linden, Alta., where she enjoyed church and community activities. Her interests included gardening, sports, reading, music, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking and laughing. She suffered from Alzheimer's disease for a number of years and had moved to Linden Nursing Home. Predeceased by son David in 1976, she is survived by Ernest; sons Ray, Marvin, John, Bob, Leslie, Barry; daughters Marlene Klassen, Pearl Boldt, Helen Dyck and Evelyn Smith; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 brother and 3 sisters. The funeral was July 7 at Linden MB Church, with Ralph Klassen ministering.
Linda Susan Pugsley
Linda Susan Pugsley passed away Aug. 9. She was born Mar. 1, 1952 to Jake and Ann Enns. She gave her heart to the Lord at an early age. Her faith in God remained strong through good and difficult times. She is remembered as a loving gentle spirit with a friendly smile. She attended Killarney Park MB Church in Vancouver. Her husband Ron died of cancer in January. She is mourned by daughter Celeste Atterton of North Vancouver, B.C., her parents of New Westminster, B.C., 1 brother and 1 sister.
Ericka Heidebrecht
Ericka Heidebrecht of Calgary passed away Aug. 13 after a battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 8, 1929 in Cereal, Alta. She married George Heidebrecht Oct. 25, 1953. She had worked at a Laura Secord's store in Calgary for the past 12 years. She is mourned by George; sons Darrel, Randy, Phil and Barry; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters and 2 brothers. The funeral was Aug. 16 at Dalhousie MB Community Church in Calgary, with Ron Toews and Abe Quiring ministering.
