Expansion at Redberry

Waldheim, Sask.

What an awesome God we serve. Looking back on our 1996 camping season, we again have so much to be thankful for. This has been a year of some exciting changes at Redberry.

Due to capacity overload, we had to decide whether to expand facilities or cut back in numbers at camp. Our intention was to pursue expansion and with God's help, progress as soon as possible. Deadline for this decision was Mar. 19 and would be based on whether enough money had been raised to complete phase one of a three-phase project. That morning, we were still approximately $70,000 short of completing phase one. "Oh yea of little faith" came to mind.

Just three hours before our meeting that day, God led someone in our constituency to give the camp an open pledge that gave us the go-ahead to build. God continues to perform miracles and I have witnessed Him do it. We have proceeded with the building and on Oct. 26 we plan on hosting our fall banquet in this place. As it stands today, we are about $70,000 short of totally completing the project. We hope to have construction complete by the spring camping season.

In terms of the summer program, we could not have asked for a better summer. We did not have to cancel one of our skill programs this year due to rain.

We broke a new attendance record this summer with 717 campers. That is an increase of over 120 campers over the last five years. Of the 717 campers, 231 came out of MB church backgrounds. Our largest camp this year was our teen camp (ages 14-17) with 106 campers. We also had the exciting privilege of seeing 53 campers come to know the Lord and 163 campers rededicate their lives to Him. That's what camping is all about and that is also why we are overflowing with thankfulness.
