Good summer at West Bank

Herbert, Sask.

This past summer has left us with many faces and names that will be in our memories for a long time--the excited voices, the laughter, and even the questions. The biggest reason we will remember the campers from 1996 is that many decided to follow Jesus. We witnessed 53 first-time commitments, and 28 recommitments. It is always exciting to watch staff come to a staff meeting with the news that they had a great time in their cabin the night before. They share of how there were many questions about Christianity, about living as a Christian, and then most exciting of all is when a counsellor shares the joy of leading a camper to Christ. For most of these counsellors, it is the first time that they have had this experience. This leaves a lasting impression on the counsellors, and really excites them and gives them the spiritual boost they need for the rest of the week. The counsellors le~ft this summer knowing that God was at work in the lives of the campers. Many of them also left with a burden to reach out to others and to share their faith.

The Lord blessed us with great weather as well as superb staff. The speakers were used by God to share His love for those in attendance.

The camp grew again this past summer. We had 99 more campers than last year. This growth has caused us to build another cabin and remodel an old one.

This summer we had many first-time campers. One new camper indicated that it was the first time at a "church" camp, and that it was "different because there was some sort of meaning to it all".

The dust has settled from the summer, but we are already working with details for next summer. We are positive that the Lord will continue to bless the ministry of Christian camping as we share God's love with all who come.
