East Ridge Community Fellowship charters

MAPLE RIDGE, B.C.

East Ridge Community Fellowship, a new church sponsored by the B.C. MB Conference Board of Church Extension, held its charter membership and first baptism service on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Thirty-one people joined the church by transfer, confession of faith and baptism. During the service, pastor Harry Loewen baptized Frank Maynard, Ryan and Della Thiessen and Melissa Wiebe.

This congregation began with interest meetings led by the Board of Church Extension in December, 1995 and January, 1996. Pastor Harrry Loewen began his ministry with the church in March, and the first service was held on May 26, Pentecost Sunday.

The congregation is composed of 60 people who come from a variety of backgrounds. They meet every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for a contemporary worship service in the rotunda of the Thomas Haney Centre in east Maple Ridge. There is a growing children's church that meets during the worship service and an active youth group.

East Ridge's purpose is to "enjoy God together and share Him with others". Its primary focus is to "reach out to the unchurched and unconnected people in our community".

With this church, there are now more than 20 churches serving a population of 55,000 in the Maple Ridge area, with an average total attendance of approximately 4000 people.
