Alberta youth gather for retreat

Camp Evergreen

"Rise up" was the theme for the Alberta youth rally held Sept. 13-15 at Camp Evergreen. A total of 144 youth and 33 sponsors participated.

For about 30 youth and a handful of sponsors, the weekend began on Thursday evening with Dave Wiebe, executive director of Christian education ministries for the Canadian MB Conference, leading the group in youth leadership training. The six areas Wiebe covered were: Building Love into Your Group; Build a "we" image; Build your contact; Build up your love for Jesus; Build up your prayer ministry and Build up the Bible.

Most of the youth found the sessions to be a lot of work but well worth it. Wiebe encouraged the group to look at the life of Christ for their answers. There was a lot of time for discussion and prayer. The time of prayer at the end of the day was a highlight.

Randy Friesen, director of Youth Mission International, was the speaker for the weekend. He talked about the REAL issues that bog people down and encouraged everyone to Get REAL with God and him/herself. Sonya Block sealed the sessions with wonderful mime presentations.

Dan Bergen and the band called "Deep" effectively led worship.

The Camp Evergreen staff headed by Paul Isaac and Garth Epp had scheduled activities all weekend long, such as horseback riding, wagon rides, wall climbing, low/high ropes, canoeing, football and volleyball. The Float night was excellent and the coffee house made for a great atmosphere.

Two teens experienced re-birth in Christ. God was clearly at work in the lives of those who participated.
