An explosive encounter

ABBOTSFORD, B.C.

Encounter '96, Columbia Bible College's annual retreat weekend for high school students was held November 1-3. The focus of the weekend was four rallies held at Mennonite Educational Institute. Souled Out, Columbia's youth worship and drama team, led the worship.

The Friday night rally was attended by 900 youth (300 Columbia students, 300 weekend guests and 300 young people from community youth groups). Randy Friesen of Youth Mission International spoke, and many went forward for prayer.

Sandwiched between the rallies were theatre sports, a hockey game, a pool party and a street fair. Local Canadian bands--two of which included Columbia grads--entertained: The Compassmen, The Shermans, and Chris Janzen. Kingdom Players, Columbia's drama team, opened and closed with a three-minute drama of the life of Christ set to the explosive theme music from Mission Impossible.
