EFC appoints co-chairs to Vision 2000 Canada

Toronto

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada has announced the appointments of John Hull, senior pastor of People's Church in Toronto and Marjorie Osborne, church growth coordinator for the Nazarene Church Canada, as co-chairs of Vision 2000 Canada, EFC's task force on evangelism.

Vision 2000 Canada was formed in 1988 to serve as a catalyst for evangelism in Canada. Its launch in 1990 in Ottawa was attended by more than 700 evangelical leaders who pledged a new commitment to evangelism. Under the leadership of Don Moore and chair Bill McRae, Vision 2000 Canada provided encouragement to denominations, churches and parachurch ministries to intensify efforts to reach Canada with the message and person of Jesus Christ.

Following eight cross-Canada consultations in early 1995, EFC's executive committee asked Briercrest Schools president Paul Magnus to conduct an analysis of the task force's work. The report praised Vision 2000 Canada's focus on evangelism, its leadership for the future and its resources such as the book Hidden Heroes. However, the report also noted that the goals of program need to be more measurable, the association of Vision 2000 Canada needed to be more clear and intentional and that the networking provided by Vision 2000 Canada did not always translate down to the local church level.

The appointments of Osborne and Hull were made by the EFC's General Council following the recommendations of 16 Canadian evangelical leaders that a chair be appointed for Vision 2000 Canada as well as a 5-6 person steering committee. The meeting of these leaders was held in Calgary from Sept. 23-25 and resulted in a strong endorsement of the task force.

The new co-chairs will work with a steering committee and the EFC executive committee to establish a long-term strategy for Vision 2000 Canada.
