The Princess

Nancy Friesen

Seven months,
that's all you had
with your princess
till the King
called her home.

Seven months
was so short
compared to a
lifetime,
a lifetime with
a princess.

Seven months
to see the changes
outside
because of the
growing princess
within.

Seven months
to say hello
then goodbye.

Seven months
was not enough time
with your princess,
but time enough
to love
your princess
who is in the presence
of the King.

The King
may never tell
you why
He wanted your precious
little princess--
but He did.

Someday you'll say
hello again
but never goodbye
to your princess.

The King is now gently
holding your princess.
And know that He is
holding you too.

Nancy Friesen is a member of Willingdon Church in Burnaby, B.C. This poem was written in memory of Mimi Kaitlin Pauls, who died in utero May 24, 1994 at about seven months.
