MB Herald, Christian Leader garner 5 awards

Winnipeg

Two Evangelical Press Association awards were given to the Mennonite Brethren Herald this year, three to the US-based Christian Leader.

A second-place prize went to MB Herald layout and design artist Fred Koop in the category of "1-,2-, or 3-colour cover" for the Dec. 20, 1996 cover titled "Brother Menno". It pictured several black and white depictions of Menno Simons with gold lettering superimposed. The judge commented that "overall, this is a beautifully designed piece," praising the use of images, typography, and effective use of two colours.

A third place prize in the biblical exposition category was for an article by V. George Shillington in the Mar. 22, 1996 issue titled, "Talking Like a Madman". The article is an exposition of II Corinthians 11. The judge comments that the piece is "clever and well-written; holds your attention; keeps you digging for more. Solid biblical exposition".

The US Mennonite Brethren periodical, Christian Leader garnered three awards. One was a first prize in the "full-colour cover" category for an issue on racism; one was a second prize in the category "humorous article" for an article titled, "Such a backward time?" by Don Ratzlaff; another was a third place tie under the category, "single theme section/issue for the issue", "Release us from our racism".
