Reflections on...Zephaniah 3:17: The Lord is with you

Sally Schroeder Isaak

Before I left on a short-term missions assignment at HCJB World Radio, where I had formerly served the Lord for many years, a neighbour gave me Zephaniah 3:17 as a send-off verse. I meditated on it every day. The verse can be neatly divided into five parts:

"The Lord your God is with you." My husband did not accompany me on this trip, but with that promise I certainly did not feel alone.

"He is mighty to save." He is powerful to save from and in the many escapades that seem to be a part of everyday living in developing countries.

"He will take great delight in you." I can only marvel at this wonderful truth!

"He will quiet you with His love." The picture I get in my mind is that of a mother cuddling and rocking her baby in her arms.

"He will rejoice over you with singing." While the mother rocks her child, she hums a little lullaby. I often sing to the Lord. It was a new thought that God sometimes sings to me. Wow!
