B.C. MB Women's Conference attracts 700

Abbotsford, B.C.

Under the theme, "By God's Design", seven hundred women gathered at Central Heights Church on Apr. 26. Renee Evashkevich and her Northview team led the worship sessions with upbeat Christian music and lyrics. Sherinne Cropley's soul-stirring mezzo-soprano solos began with "Bring Down Your Glory". She concluded with a plea for the Lord to say, "Well Done" when He calls us home.

Sharon Wiebe of Youth for Christ outlined two programs for girls in Abbotsford. "Girls Night Out" gives high school girls a chance to meet and interact with Christian adults. "Power over Passion" is a relationship project to promote sexual abstinence before marriage. The offering provided $4,347 toward this work.

Fifteen workshops were offered by experts in each specialty. Opportunities for personal enjoyment or improvement were given in prayer, parenting, grandparenting, dressing, quilting, cooking and decorating.

Colourful communicator, Carol Kent, based her "Women of Worth" message on Luke 10:25-37. When God is alive within, you feel compelled to share. Like the Good Samaritan you'll say, "Put it on my bill, I'll cover the cost". Six characteristics of mercy are: sharpened vision, renewed perspective, authentic compassion, personal involvement and evangelistic passion with an eternal perspective.

Kent's dynamic "Women of Vision" talk involved responses from the audience. Using Matthew 14:22-35 she emphasized the potential Christ saw in Matthew the tax gatherer, and the great future He sees in each of us. Despite uncertain circumstances, wrong conclusions and impulsive conduct, Jesus hears the desperate call and heeds the needy crowd. We, too, need to help others deal with their hurts and find Christ. By our submission to Jesus, and care for our families, we mentor future leaders. Nobody is here by accident; God created each individual by His design, for His glory.

Although billed as a women's conference, the topics and workshops held universal appeal. The sessions were chaired by Lovella Guggenheimer and Kathy Neufeld.
