Kids camp helps launch church plant

WESTBANK, B.C.

Maybe it was because summer holidays were almost over and the children had been "underfoot" for six weeks that such a large group of enthusiastic children and their (somewhat weary looking) parents showed up for a Kids Day Camp, which ran Aug. 11-15 at Rose Valley Elementary School in Westbank, B.C. The camp ran for two hours each morning--long enough to give parents a break and allow the children to expend some energy!

Thirty-eight smiling, laughing children played games, sang songs and did crafts, led by a team of youth. Hosting the event was SunRidge Community Church--a brand new B.C. MB Conference Board of Church Extension plant that has started in Westbank and plans to begin holding worship services in October. Pastor couple Mike and Teresa Klassen welcomed the help of the senior high youth from Chilliwack (B.C.) Central MB Church (led by Mike and Jen Froese), who organized and ran the Day Camp and spent many hours walking the community and handing out flyers.

The goal of SunRidge is to be a "friendly new church experience" for people who have never been to, or have given up on, church. The emphasis of the weekend service is to be real and relevant--dealing with issues that matter. The church plans to be creative in its approach, offering drama, multi-media, music, teaching that people can relate to, and an exciting children's program.
