Reflections on Matthew 5:14-16: The Light of the World
Herman Kroeker
All of us enjoy light! Light does a number of things: It warns, like a lighthouse on the shore. It warms and cheers, like a fireplace in a home. Lights regulate traffic in our city intersections. Light reveals beauty--without light, we would have no radiance from the sapphire or diamond. Light is also the emblem of joy in the Scriptures.
Of Jesus, it is said, "In Him was life, and that life was the light of men" (John 1:4). He Himself said, "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12). He said of us, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). Can you see yourself as a light? Does your life have a warm, cheerful influence on others around you? Do you reflect a Christ-like character?
This one is by Herman Kroeker from St. Catharines, Ont., and is taken from his book A Lift for Living.
