Home Church: Killarney Park MB/ West Vancouver Baptist

Ministry: My ministry began at an early age as a choral singer and occasional solo singer. This developed into ministry as a children's/church choir conductor and congregational song leader. Eventually it became clear to me that I needed to channel my ministry rather than spread myself too thin. Solo singing seemed to be the area in which God could use me to soften the hearts of listeners to receive His word. I like to sing a wide variety of music and to a variety of ages.

Personal Data: My husband, Ed, is a commercial lawyer with a native law subspeciality in downtown Vancouver. He enjoys sports and is a knowledgeable music listener.

Our son, Edward, is a 3rd year math major at UBC. He enjoys music and sports and working with the church high school group. Our daughter, Lauren, is in 1st year at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. She is on the volleyball team and enjoys music as well. We also have a ten-year-old cat named Champagne, after the colour of her coat. Some of my hobbies include golf, reading, gardening and jigsaw puzzles (only have time for these during the holidays).

Musical Influences: Both of my parents came from musical families. My father's family specialized in instrumental music and my mother's in singing. My grandfather was a choral conductor. Music played an important part in our home and all eight of us children were given the opportunity to take music lessons, which ranged from piano, violin, clarinet, cello, flute and trumpet to singing. Singers and musicians in the church influenced me as did my music teachers at the Mennonite Educational Institute where I attended and later my instructors at MBBC (now Concord College) in Winnipeg.

Musical Style: Classical. Bach to spirituals.

Whether I sing an aria or a simple hymn, I try to make it come alive to the listener; to capture the imagination and soften the heart.

What do you listen to these days?: Mostly classical CDs, ranging from vocal to choral and orchestral. My husband's musical taste covers a broader spectrum, consequently, I also listen to 'Austin City Limits' or Vince Gil, etc., on occasion.

What do you listen to on the road?: CBC radio, either FM or AM

What are you reading right now?: The Jesus I Never Knew, Philip Yancey

Theological/Spiritual Influences: My parents/bible camp leaders/MEI teachers

MBBC instructors

Other: Our family spent last Christmas in Kenya, Africa. My husband, son and I were visiting our 17 year-old daughter who was with Youth With A Mission in Mombassa, Kenya. The five months there were life-changing for her. The three weeks for us were fascinating and enriching.

I am a part-time voice instructor at Trinity Western University and find my interaction with the students to be very rewarding.
