Reflections on Psalm 19:12-14
The necessary maintenance

More than 18,000 Detroit-Windsor-area motorists visited local tire centres last fall for free 12-point auto inspections. More than 72% of the vehicles proved deficient. The most common problem was a dirty oil filter, followed by deficiencies such as low brake fluid and low windshield solvent. Such small problems, however, can make the difference between getting to work on time and thumbing a ride.

Like my car facing a hard winter, I need regular safety checks to keep me free from breakdowns on life's highway. This means more than belonging to an organization; it means venturing with Jesus. Constant surveillance of my relationship with Him is of the essence if I expect to arrive at my expected eternal destination.

Desiring to discern his errors and avoid hidden faults, the Psalmist prayed, "Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression (Psalm 19:13-14).
