Longtime MBBS faculty member on full disability FRESNO, CALIF. Allen Guenther, longtime MB Biblical Seminary faculty member, has asked to be placed on full disability. Guenther, professor of Old Testament, began teaching at the Seminary in 1981 and has been battling Parkinson's Disease since 1984. He will remain a part of the Seminary community, maintaining his office and teaching as his health permits.

In his President's Chapel address on Feb. 6, Henry Schmidt spoke about having an attitude of a servant. Using Philippians 2 as Christ-as-servant picture, he called Guenther a model of servanthood. "Allen and [wife] Anne represent so much of what we are trying to teach and model here at MBBS. I marvel how they have handled with grace, dignity and serenity what from a human perspective is impossible to explain."

During the chapel, Schmidt read from a letter Guenther had written. In it Guenther said he was grateful to God for allowing him to teach 14 years at MBBS and he appreciated the consideration and dignity given him by the administration, faculty, staff and students. He also pledged his continued support to the institution.

Schmidt also congratulated Elmer Martens, president emeritus and professor emeritus of Old Testament, for the release of the third edition of God's Design. It is reported to be the most popular Old Testament theology book in US evangelical seminaries, Schmidt said.--Kent H. Gaston
