Insurance needs

by Barbara Armstrong

Junk mail is one of those things people love to hate. However, junk mail at least serves the purpose of letting us feel useful in the recycling program. Included in my usual pile of junk mail are ads for RRSPs, mortgages and insurance "needs". One of the insurance ads caught my attention one day, but as I read it, my thoughts were on another "insurance provider". I wrote down the following thoughts using the ad's list of insurance needs:

House Insurance

"Every one who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock; and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall; for it had been founded upon the rock" (Matthew 7:24,25, NAS).

Health Insurance

"Prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him" (James 5:15, NAS).

Travel Insurance

"My help comes from the LORD. . . . He will not allow your foot to slip. He who keeps you will not slumber. . . . The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever" (Psalm 121:2,3,7,8, NAS).

Fire Insurance

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" (Revelation 21:6-8, NAS).

Life Insurance

"Jesus said. . . `I am the resurrection, and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies' " (John 11:25, NAS).

"These have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name" (John 20:31, NAS).
