New editor appointed of Christian Leader

HILLSBORO, KAN.

Carmen Andres of Sacramento, Calif. has been appointed new editor of the Christian Leader (the US national MB periodical) by the US MB Conference Board of Communications. Andres will begin her new assignment Oct. 19 and will work from a West Coast office.

Andres currently serves as editor for King Hall Counselor, the alumni magazine for the University of California, Davis, School of Law. She also designed and manages the law school's Web site. Andres' skills and experience range from writing and design of a magazine, newsletters, brochures and other print products to Web page design and teaching people how to use the Internet.

Andres is a 1989 graduate of Fresno Pacific University where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in English and psychology and where she co-edited the student newspaper, The Syrinx. She earned a master of arts degree from California State University, Fresno in 1992.

"Carmen stood out as someone with a track record of producing a high-quality magazine, as well as a person with a unique passion for keeping the Christian Leader relevant to an evolving constituency in changing times," said board chair Kathy Heinrichs Wiest.

"The Leader plays an important role in the Mennonite Brethren community," said Andres. "It strives to make a difference, to bring community together. It consistently inspires, informs and provides a forum where members can come together and voice their views, concerns and insights."

Andres and her husband Richard are members of Greenhaven MB Church in Sacramento. They have an infant daughter, Elizabeth Lorien. Carmen's roots are in the Mennonite Church; she was raised at Trinity Mennonite Church in Phoeniz, Ariz.

Andres's experience with the MB Conference entities include two years as a recruitment specialist at Fresno Pacific University and three years on the steering committee for Hospitality to International Students Program, a program related to MBMS International.

The board chose to locate Andres in a West Coast office to strengthen the magazine's connections with its diverse and increasingly urban constituency, said Wiest. Andres's editorial office will be in Sacramento.

The Christian Leader will continue to maintain a Midwest office in Hillsboro, Kan., where assistant editor Connie Faber has her office.--The Christian Leader
