The first was the creation of part-time mission mobilizer positions in Winnipeg, Abbotsford, B.C. and Wichita, Kan. that will work with churches in building greater awareness and support of missions, as well as calling people to active service.
The new positions are part of an effort that started several years ago with the appointment of volunteer Regional Mission Advocates (RMAs), who communicate the work of MBMSI to churches.
In the past two years, five RMAs made 285 visits to 160 MB churches in Canada and the US. An additional RMA was appointed recently, with seven more being sought throughout North America.
The second change was the reorganization of key leadership roles. A five-member administrative council has been created to include the general director and directors of four central functions: Program, Personnel Services, Finance and Support Services, and Constituency Relations.
The new personnel position (including an assistant director) will be responsible for recruitment, applicant processing, missionary and staff training, and will coordinate the care of missionaries.
The third decision was the creation of a management centre to house the new administrative council. The expanded office, to be situated at the current location in Fresno, Calif., will be completed and positions relocated by June 30, 1999.
This consolidation of staff will mean that two positions currently in the Winnipeg office will be moved to Fresno. However, the Winnipeg office will continue to process funds received from Canadian supporters. The half-time director of Asia programs will be located in Wichita, Kan. and will be the mission mobilizer for the central and southern districts.
A search committee has been formed for the personnel positions and for the position of associate director for finance and support services. These positions will be located in Fresno, Calif. beginning Nov. 1, 1998
