Steve Klassen, director of Youth Mission International's TREK program, was the guest speaker. His four sessions focused on
* What is the Kingdom of God?
* The Demands and Attraction of the Kingdom
* Our Response to the Kingdom
* Our Presentation of the Kingdom.
Using the Gospel of Mark as his foundation, Steve challenged all in attendance to seriously consider their place in the Kingdom.
Many students responded to a call to prayer given after each of the four rallies. On Halloween night, the prayer room was filled with people responding to the Kingdom call on their lives. Various youth commented that they had completely forgotten that it was Halloween and that it had been a real blessing to be involved in worship on a night dedicated to the kingdom of darkness.
The students were treated to various other events, including a concert by local artists "Strangely Dim"; a "Toymaker and Son" presentation by a drama group from Seattle; seminars; late night cafes; afternoon concerts; and theatre sports. Columbia's basketball, soccer and hockey teams also provided lots to cheer about, making Encounter '98 a weekend to remember. Elly Bargen
