Congregation called to commit to prayer

Prayer conference participants urged to deepen relationship with God
GRAND FORKS, B.C.

"Developing your Secret Closet" was the theme at a prayer conference hosted by Gospel Chapel, Grand Forks, B.C. Oct. 18-21. Many people responded to the messages of Richard Burr, who presented material which included a vision for the purpose of life, preparation for the secret closet and the elements of prayer.

Corney Pauls said after the conference, "I wondered what Burr was going to talk on prayer for four days. I was pleasantly surprised. I was impressed that prayer is a relationship with God."

The conference encouraged many in the congregation to deepen their relationship with God by committing to spend time alone with God every day, and by experiencing two-way communication with the Lord. To achieve this, Burr taught the congregation about using praise and repentance passages in Scripture as a means to express themselves to God. He urged them to allow God to speak to them individually through His Word.

Sheila Janzen summed up her experience at the conference: "I was having a dry spell and I couldn't understand why God wasn't listening. I found out it was I that was in the way--not God. God was there every time I came to my secret closet of prayer. I've had some interesting mornings."

Burr left his listeners with the importance of putting this information into practice right away. Participants were encouraged to sign a prayer covenant for accountability. He said, "If we do not put what we hear into practice within 24 hours, it becomes part of the library of our life."--Gospel Chapel
