The Multicultural Scholarship was established to assist students in leadership training for an increasingly culturally diverse context in Fresno. Recipients must be involved in leadership in a church, mission or Christian organization and their future plans should include ministry in an ethnic-specific or cross-cultural setting.
Ramirez, who was born in Mexico and moved to California when she was five, has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Fresno Pacific University and is enrolled in a marriage and family counselling program at MBBS.
Meux, an M.Div. student at MBBS, was director of the House of Worship Project for Fresno Leadership Foundation. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration and has served various churches as a trustee, assistant pastor and pastor.
The Helen Janz Memorial Scholarship was established by the Janz family in 1997 as part of a larger estate gift to MBMS International. One scholarship per year is given to a Canadian student who is preparing for global missions, and another is given to an international student who plans to return to his or her home country to serve the MB church.
Janzen is a member of the Grantham MB Church, St. Catharines, Ont. In Fresno, she lives in the inner city and works with World Impact. She is the mission representative for the seminary's student council. In 1997, she travelled around the world with Esengo, a music and ministry team from Congo, and last summer she gave leadership to a Youth Mission International team in India. She is working toward an M.Div. in Christian Community Development.
Pereira and his wife Maria have two children. They are from São Paulo, Brazil, where Joao was a pastor in an MB church. He is pursuing a master's degree in Old Testament and New Testament. Maria is pursuing a bachelor's degree at Fresno Pacific University.
