Mennonite Heritage Gallery opens

Winnipeg

The Mennonite Heritage Gallery had its gala opening November 20. This refurbished gallery is part of the Mennonite Heritage Centre on the campus of Canadian Mennonite Bible College, Winnipeg. Local artist Ray Dirks has been appointed curator of the Gallery. Dirks's art featured in this first showing was entitled "Passages". It focuses largely on two themes: family and Africa. The other artist featured in this showing was Yisa Akinbolaji, a painter from Lagos. The Gallery is mandated to give exposure to artists within the Mennonite community and other artists of faith in Canada, as well as work with artists from minority, immigrant and refugee communities. Dirks is a member of Jubilee Mennonite Church, Winnipeg.
