A 13th century prayer book once owned by a crusader was sold June 23 for $4.6 million US at Sotheby's auction house in London, England. It was the highest price ever paid for any French manuscript. Called the Burdett Psalter, it was probably commissioned by Jean de Villiers, grand master of the Knights of St. John, who led an unsuccessful crusade to Palestine in 1292EPNS
