Marianne Meed Ward has resigned as director of publishing and managing editor of Faith Today, periodical of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, effective Feb. 9.
EFC President Gary Walsh said her decision came as EFC begins a review of its communication ministry, including Faith Today. "Every aspect of the ministry and structure of EFC has been or is being studied with a view of aligning our programs with our mission statement," he said. "As we turn our attention to communications, our review has led to a readiness to revise the mission statement and execution of Faith Today."
He said Meed Ward preferred to seek other opportunities rather than implement a new direction for the magazine. "Marianne has brought a high standard of professionalism to Faith Today, and we are grateful for the quality of her work," he commented.
Under Meed Ward's leadership, Faith Today received numerous awards and citations, making it a leader among religious magazines. Meed Ward is a graduate in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, and has worked with the magazine since 1989. In 1996, she became managing editor.
Since September, Larry Matthews, former editor of Canadian Baptist magazine, has been under contract as interim managing editor during Meed Ward's maternity leave, and will continue until the communications strategic plan is completed. A new editor of Faith Today will be announced at that time.
Faith Today, founded in 1983, is published six times a year. No interruption of its publication schedule is expected.--Evangelical Fellowship of Canada news release
