Spurring the faithful on
CAROL RIEDIGER
THE FAITHFUL
Steve Green. Sparrow Records, 1998. Produced by Phil Nash.
The Faithful is a very appropriate title for this extremely inspirational and biblically based CD. Steve Green has a deep love for God, and his heart's desire is to inspire others. This album is specially geared to spur Christians on to a deeper walk with God. On the lyrics sheet, he prefaces most of the songs with a Bible passage and gives his own purpose for the song. This CD deals with themes such as revival, fasting, prayer, martyrdom and death, including a sober look at "choosing life". All of the songs are deep prayers from the heart, centring around the reason for Chistianity--the cross of Christ.
Just as powerful is the quality of music. It is well-balanced with the words, and each song tastefully suits the mood of the message. There are a variety of musical styles as well: contemporary Christian, classical, country, musical theatre, hymns and African folk music. Green does a great job on all varieties, receiving help from others such as Phil Nash, Twila Paris, Marty McCall, Bonnie Keen, Jon Mohr, Tom Howard, the London Session Orchestra and several choirs.
It is obvious Steve Green has a heart for ministry, evangelism and discipleship. I was very impressed with the depth of the messages and themes and with the flexibility of the music. Although this CD is probably not suited for a younger crowd, I highly recommend it to anyone who desires to grow in the Lord and who enjoys listening to a wide variety of music. It is truly inspirational; one of my favourites of all his albums.Carol Riediger teaches piano and is a worship leader in Chilliwack (B.C.) Central MB Church.
