"This weekend changed my life", "The best was praying and worshipping the Lord", "The best was a chance to have fun and be with other believers" were just a few of the comments given by those who attended this year's Youth Advance '99 at Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Sask. The annual youth event, held Feb. 5-7, attracted 262 high school students and 43 sponsors from as far away as Ontario and British Columbia. Packed full of exciting activities, meaningful worship and new friendships, the weekend was upheld in prayer with a 24-prayer chain. This year's focus was discipleship.
Following the theme "Any Road, Any Cost", speaker Dan King challenged his listeners to take care of business with God and to get rid of the sin in their lives. Small discussion groups, led by Bethany students, met after each session to discuss the message and how it had affected participants. Bethany students put on a musical under the direction of Jacki Kliever and Gerry Willems.
Youth pastors and sponsors took part in two sessions with Resource Director Derrick Mueller to discuss how to enhance the effectiveness of a youth ministry. Other activities included main sessions, afternoon workshops, a gladiator challenge, hockey night in Hepburn and worship led by Jon Buller.
Many youth left Bethany with a new or renewed commitment to follow Jesus Christ "Any Road" at "Any Cost".--Bethany Bible Institute release
