The Mennonite Brethren Herald received two honourable mentions from the Canadian Church Press Awards for its work in 1998.
The Congo issue (Jan. 23) received honourable mention for Feature. The judge wrote: "A beautiful piece of journalism and Christian reporting. I knew nothing of the situation before reading this. I know a great deal now."
The MBH also received honourable mention for Layout and design with "The Poor" issue (June 12). The judge called page seven "powerful with the eye contact and subject of the image. The main head has good breathing room."
Others receiving awards included:
* Sue Careless for best feature with "Hope Lost, Hope Regained" in Faith Today. The judge wrote: "A very fine piece of journalism--thorough, well-written and very informative."
* Joan Bond honourable mention for the poem "Another Fish Story" in Presbyterian Record. The judge noted: "An imaginative retelling of the Jonah story. Carefully crafted in earthy, specific images."
* John Stackhouse honourable mention for editorial "Finding the One 'True Church' " in Faith Today. The judge called it "an interesting, mainly well-written and thoughtful essay. Good use of specifics."--The Canadian Church Press
