On Saturday, April 24, 451 women gathered at Fraserview MB Church, Richmond, B.C., for Spring Break Away '99, formerly known as the annual B.C. MB Women's Conference. Key Speaker, Dee Brestin from Nebraska, spoke on the theme of the conference, "The Friendship of Women". Brestin is the author of well-known books like Friendship of Women and We are Sisters, and numerous Bible studies. She presented a vivid picture of biblical friendships like Mary and Elizabeth's, Ruth and Naomi's, and Leah and Rachael's.
Other features of the day included a brunch, a Victorian tea, 11 inspirational and educational workshops, a comical drama presentation by Erica Enns, a special offering project for crisis pregnancy centres of the lower mainland, and worship and solo music by Carol Dyck. The committee is comprised of 12 women from 12 different MB churches.
"It was worthwhile attending" and "The speaker touched my heart" were some of the comments about the conference.
Next year's Spring Break Away will be held April 29, with Faith Crosby from Ontario as speaker.
