Rick Down has been appointed president of Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alta., effective July 1. Down, the seventh president of the school, has served as interim president since July 1, 1998. He has been on PBI staff for 20 years.
Born in Vancouver and raised near Vernon, B.C., Down graduated from PBI in 1968. He studied at Trinity Western University, the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. In 1979, after six years of public education, he joined PBI staff.
Down served in the high school as dean, counsellor, teacher and principal, then as vice-president of operations, taught in the Bible College part-time for four years, and worked as superintendent of Prairie General Education (K-12). He has visited mission projects in the Philippines, Japan, Kenya and Europe, and has served in leadership in several churches.
Prairie Bible Institute is an inter-denominational school serving about 1,400 students in a Bible college and graduate school as well as elementary, junior and senior high schools. PBI has 15,000 alumni serving in 114 countries.
