Reflections on: Matthew 19:12

Adam and God

Adam must have had a tremendous relationship with God when he was alone with Him in the Garden. When Adam was naming the animals, they must have spent a lot of time together. I'm sure God saw the danger of losing Adam's devotion and this close relationship when He decided to create a "mate" for him. Yet God loved Adam so much when He saw Adam's need of an "earthly" partner that He did it.

But how sad for God when Adam listened to his partner instead of Him. The choice is ours today too. As much as we love the "partner" that God has allowed us to spend time with on this earth, that partner is not to come between us and God. Are we willing to give God more time than our earthly mate? Are we able to have "conversations" with God as easily as with our partner?

It was written about Amy Carmichael: "She never married, for God was her Husband, Lover and Companion." God has a desire to be that in everyone's life.

"Reflections on . . . "is a column of brief reflections on Scripture passages. This one is by Tina Reimer of Strathroy, Ont. Freelance submissions (200-250 words in length) are welcome.
